What should we wear?

Solid, soft, neutral colors

I want viewers of my client photos to be drawn into the joy and happiness of the moment. Solid, soft neutral colors – blues, beiges, and the like – play a crucial role in directing the focus to the raw, genuine emotions captured.

Simple accessories

Summer sessions, particularly at sunset or sunrise, are the most popular among my clients. To ensure your comfort, choose breathable and comfortable fabrics.

If you're planning a winter session, layering allows for flexibility – simply add or remove layers to stay comfortable.

It may feel odd dressing up to go to the mountains or even downtown. I get it. More likely than not, you will see others doing the same thing you're doing during your session time! I encourage looking for flowy dresses, skirts and casual button down tops to enhance your photos. Amazon has many options for dresses and most of them are easy to return if you need to try a few on.

Add a hat, a bouquet of flowers or a blanket if its cold to your session to add some dimension! A simple necklace, bracelet and earrings are encouraged. I would keep them similar to your outfit -neutral, soft colors to keep the focus on the emotions in the photos.

Color Palette by Season

We recommend choosing natural, simple, neutral-toned colors while keeping the season in mind. Soft, earthy colors photograph beautifully and create a timeless, cohesive look.

Spring: creams, beige, sage, soft blues, blush

Summer: warm neutrals, tan, soft whites, muted greens, light denim

Fall: browns, camel, rust, olive, mustard

Winter: creams, taupe, charcoal, deep green, burgundy

Avoid bright colors, busy patterns, large logos (Unless this is a business logo & these for headshots/team photos), or graphics. Instead of matching everyone exactly, mix complementary tones and textures. The goal is comfortable, season-appropriate outfits that feel natural and timeless.

*Harsh colors tend to bounce back and reflect on your skin - Lime greens can cause you too more green, Bright pinks can cause you to look super pink as well.*

Simple & Timeless

If you don’t normally wear makeup, that’s perfectly okay — natural is always beautiful as well as a full beat! We are all for a full beat of makeup if that’s your style, but we also love a fresh, all-natural look. Even small touches like moisturizing your skin, grooming your brows, adding lip balm, or curling your lashes can help enhance your natural features and photograph beautifully — while still feeling like you.

Beauty, Your Way

Research the area where your session will take place and take note of the colors in the surroundings. Choosing tones that complement the environment helps create a cohesive look. Solid colors and subtle patterns photograph best and keep the focus on you, rather than drawing attention elsewhere. Avoid logos, graphics, or overly bold designs, as they can distract from the emotion and connection in your images. Logos are best reserved for headshots or branding sessions, where they help tell your professional story. Finish your look with simple accessories, such as a dainty necklace or a classic watch, to add a polished touch without overpowering your outfit.

Fit, Feel & Movement

Choose outfits that fit you well and feel comfortable. Clothes that fit properly photograph better and help you feel confident and at ease.

Try on your outfits ahead of time and make sure you truly love how they look and feel — don’t settle for anything that feels awkward or uncomfortable. Also think about how you’ll be moving during your session. Will you be sitting in the grass, standing, or walking around for candid moments? Pick outfits that match the poses and overall vibe you’re going for.
